How can different countries strengthen each other's programmes by exchanging information and working together?

2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the Dutch Breast Cancer Screening programme.

In response to this, RIVM Centre for Population Screening has organised an International Invitational Symposium on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 October 2010 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Representatives from all the 27 EU member states and other countries were invited to attend this symposium.

Participants from many countries have attended the symposium: Austria, Estonia, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Slovak Republic, Sweden, France, Hungary, Spain, Norway, United Kingdom, Malta, Germany and Lithuania.

The symposium's target group are people who are responsible for the coordination and direction of these screening programmes at the regional or national level.

The objective of the symposium was to exchange knowledge and experience, and additionally to build up an international network.

Evaluation

The symposium was rated with a high grade: 8.8 (on a scale from 1 to 10).
The organization was graded with a 9.4. The opening of the symposium was rated with a 8.7 and the topics were rated 8.3.
The symposium has succeeded in its objective to exchange knowledge and experience, and has made a wonderful start in building an international network with people involved in the coordination and direction of breast cancer screening programmes.

We have invited Philip Davies as chairman. Philip Davies is director Europe Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA) and he is committed to the human rights to health and their application to cancer screening.
